Your own insurance will reimburse you for the cost of substitute transportation if your car was involved in an accident and it is being repaired. However, you will likely be required to pay for the rental car yourself when you turn it in to the rental company. Legally the person responsible for your accident must pay for any substitute transportation but it may take months for them to reimburse you.

Under certain circumstances the insurance company for the party at fault may agree to pay for these fees. However, if they do not agree to pay then you will be personally liable for these fees. It is important that you don’t let theses fees pile up. Storage fees range from $35-$50 a day and can pile up fast.
