Criminal Penalties For Illegal Transportation of Loaded Firearm in a Vehicle Under Massachusetts Law
Massachusetts has some of the strictest gun-control laws in the nation. There are several laws on the books that deal with transporting firearm in vehicles and cars.
Class A Firearm License Holder
A Class A holder is allowed to transport both loaded and unloaded non-large capacity handguns in a car if the handgun is under their direct control. The Handgun doesn’t need to be placed in a locked container. Violators will be subject to a $500 fine.
Class B Firearm License Holder
A Class B holder is allowed to transport non-large capacity handguns in a car. The Handgun must be unloaded and either place in a locked container or the car’s locked truck. Violators will be subject to a $500 fine.
Large Capacity Rifles and Shotguns
Both Class A and B License Holders may only transport large capacity rifles or shotguns if they are unloaded and either place in a locked container or the car’s locked truck. Violators will be subject to a $5,000 fine.
